Social Enterprise

HOPE have presently 2 charity shops, both provide an essential service
to the community. They provide cheap fashionable clothes at a low price
to those members of the public who are on low income.
The shop sells
clothes, Bric-a-Brac, household items,
bedding, curtains and small items of furniture. The shop’s also support
and provides for a household essentials service for clients who have
previously been homeless and are moving into accommodation. These
individuals usually due to their previous chaotic lifestyle have never
been able to accumulate possessions with which to build a home, and so
this basic provision helps service user set-up and maintain a tenancy.
Start-up packs are
provided, where required, and include pots and pans, towels, bedding,
food and toiletries - providing the basic essentials, (which are taken
for granted by many), in order to get established.
2007 has been a very busy year! We collected 102
tonnes of household goods and recycled 89 tonnes. We
earned £1,620 in re-use credits by recycling 7 tonnes of
rags-that’s 815 bin bags full.
We also recycled 3 tonnes of scrap metal a
new enterprise for us and travelled over 26,000 miles! Income
from providing our Portable Appliance Testing Service to other small
businesses and voluntary and Community groups increased to £8,111.
We received a grant from the Clothmakers Trust of
£10,000 towards a new van, which we hope to purchase mid 2008.
We opened a second charity clothes shop on Sandy
Lane at the end of March which has provided an income of £11,706.05 in
2007 and we hope to increase this to the same level as the Harworth shop
which has provided an income of £20,944.55 for 2007.
