Alans West Highland Way walk for HOPE

During May, HOPE’s CEO Alan (and his friends) undertook the West Highland Way, 92 miles from Glasgow to Fort William, and adding Ben Lomond & Ben Nevis …. He did this in order to raise money for HOPE and to help homeless people across north Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire.
Alan managed to raise £575 for HOPE, as well as £92.50 in gift-aid. More contributions are expected shortly.

Alan has said “I do like walking and enjoying the health benefits of getting out into the countryside, it’s how I relax.  However, when I began to plan for the West Highland Way, I hadn’t realised that all that Scottish scenery can come with its share of rain, to keep the pleasant land green…… So, having a week of endless glorious sunshine to walk in was entirely unexpected, but fantastic.

The days were long, averaging 20 miles a day, but most enjoyable.  Getting a rather large blister on day one was not in the plan either, but was managed with plasters and cream. For anyone who likes to walk, I would encourage one of Britain’s long-distance paths.  The West Highland Way is one of the oldest and prettiest.  Give it a go, I guarantee you will enjoy it, meet incredibly interesting people and have a brilliant experience.

We finalised the trip with a climb of Ben Nevis, the country’s largest mountain.  Again, we hadn’t planned for the tropical temperatures, very different from a previous failed attempt, when a “white out” turned us around when almost there.  But, after 8 hours of tough going we were back in Fort William for a well-earned ice cream (which had to be hurried to prevent it melting). I would like to thank everyone who has sponsored me, their support meant I could not consider stopping, even when my feet felt on fire.”
